FDA Meeting Fun!

Friday night I had to drive to Tampa for a Saturday meeting for the Florida Dietetic Association.  I hold the position of President of the Southwest District and this is one of two state meetings we have each year to get together and discuss & vote on policy, current issues, and information for the profession in our state.  I always leave these group meetings feeling empowered and excited about the profession and the things we need to do as a group.  It's a good collection of professionals who believe strongly and are on the forefront in the field of nutrition.

I prefer to drive the night before and stay over instead of getting up super early to drive while I'm tired.  It makes for too long of a day to drive 2-3 hours, have a day-long meeting, and drive 2-3 hours back.

We have a nice (healthy) breakfast and start the meeting with the official rules of order.  We had a productive morning of reports and information updates.  Then we broke for lunch to gather in another room and have a nice (healthy) lunch.  This is a nice time to get to know each other and talk about things other than our jobs, nutrition, and licensure issues.  As we finish up lunch and head out to return to the meeting for the afternoon session, we see a commotion in the lobby of the hotel.  As we get closer, we see it's a group of Storm Troopers, Darth Vaders, Siths (sp?), the officers, and some Ghost Busters.

Apparently there was something at a nearby museum that had to do with movie history and they joined in the fun.  We commented about how some of the storm troopers looked like they had rubbed dirt on their "uniforms" to make it look like they were fresh from battle.  I was wondering how they walk around town and travel with their guns.  We were all laughing about the randomness and silliness of it all while we headed back to our meeting.  Maybe we should have a costume theme next year?
